Ghost Dogs of Moon Lake Death Scenarios
This is an unavoidable spoiler, but there are a limited number of possible deaths in Ghost Dogs of Moon Lake, and some of them are creative. You may not have experienced
all of them, and may be curious. (-: So, here's a list:
*You can fall through the rotten floorboards to your death if you, well, explore the house before talking to Sally. (It's hard to miss this one if you're
curious enough to play adventure games in the first place-- hooray for the Second Chance option!)
*You can pass out and die if you pump the gas enough times in the shed (even if you're holding the gas mask.)
*Your boat will veer off course and explode if you take off in it without first setting the screws to the proper height.
*You can fall out of your boat and drown if you neglect to pick up the life jacket.
*You can die in the fire if you fail to escape in time.
*You can be drowned if you open the door leading into the well without draining it first.
*You can be eaten by a grue if you walk in the dark without a flashlight, either in the cellar or the secret tunnels.
(Okay, it doesn't actually SAY Nancy is eaten by a grue, but it's not clear what HAS befallen her-- unlike
some earlier games, there are no pitfalls in the path into which she might have fallen.)
*You can be killed by Em if you fail the final endgame challenge.
You can also lose the game without dying if you escape from the burning shed but fail to put out the fire in time. Though some people
have said Nancy can die of a mouse bite, as far as I know it's impossible to get the mice to bite you-- Nancy refuses to stick her hand
in there at all unless she has gloves and a mask, even if you open the safe before visiting the ranger station.
Easter Eggs and Optional Actions
There is an easter egg in Ghost Dogs of Moon Lake, which you can acquire by dialing 555-SOLV on the phone (555-7658).
It sounds like this was part of a pre-game contest of some sort.
There are three new areas in the woods that can be accessed if you're holding the egg in your hand at the time, but there's
nothing of interest in them... they just look like any other forest square, except that one replays the video of the shed exploding and the
other two have text messages related to people from the Nancy Drew message board.
There were also a couple of cameos by characters from
Nancy Drew: The Final Scene.
Most humorously, Eustacia Andropov, the cranky morbid old lady Nancy had to call for information about Harry Houdini,
answers the phone if you call Vivian's house again after receiving the key from her. There's also an article about Brady Armstrong
in the tabloids in the underground kennel.
Finally, there are also a number of actions you can take in the game which are entirely optional to the plot. To give them a try, follow this link:
Ghost Dogs of Moon Lake Options.
Spoilers: Plot Holes
This plot didn't really make as much sense as some of the Nancy Drew games. Some particular plot holes:
1) Why did Em need to get rid of Sally in the first place? She already knew about the underground passages and how to get into them.
So how could Sally could have been obstructing her attempts to get through that final door?
2) If Em wanted to keep Nancy from exploring the underground passages so badly, why did she sell her flashlight batteries? Couldn't she
have just pretended to be out of batteries?
3) Why was Em trapped in the treasure room at the end of the game? Nancy had just exited that room through the drain, so why couldn't
Em do the same? Is she just supposed to be so greedy that she wouldn't leave the gold behind? There's no way she could have carried
more than one gold bar at a time anyway.
4) What happened to all that gold anyway? After all that fuss, the topic was just dropped like a hot rock. :P
5) What did the police even arrest Em for? Other than trying to kill Nancy (which Nancy didn't have any proof of), she hadn't
really DONE anything. Letting her dogs bark at Sally would have been a misdemeanor at best, probably just a warning, and since the gold
didn't actually belong to anybody, she wasn't really stealing it any more than Nancy was.
