Wizardry 8 Spoilers

Welcome to the new Computer Game Spoilers section of my gaming website. I added this section because I recently received questions about the plots of two different games which, to my surprise and embarrassment, I had totally forgotten the answers to. Then, to my further surprise, I was unable to find any existing website that would refresh my memory about the plots of computer games... lots of puzzle solutions, but no basic plot summaries.

So I figured I'd better write some of them down while they're still fresh in my mind, just in case I or anybody else wants to refer to them at some point in the future (or in case anybody suffers a major game glitch and just wants to know what was supposed to happen in the end-- I get letters like this from time to time.) If you haven't finished Wizardry 8 yet and you don't want the plot of this game to be revealed to you, then you don't want to read this page. Please go back to my main Wizardry 8 page, where I give tips and reviews without giving away any of its plot.

But if you are looking for plot spoilers, just scroll further down the page to find them!

Plot Summary

There are a few different starting points for this game, due to the fact that there were a few different ending points in the last game (Wizardry VII.) However, these differences are superficial and do not affect the plot of Wizardry 8 at all. One way or another, the party ends up on a spaceship that is shot down by the Dark Savant on the planet of Dominus. They must collect the three divine artifacts Astral Dominae, Destinae Dominus, and Chaos Moliri. Once they have done so, they bring them to Ascension Peak and have a final showdown with the Dark Savant-- who reveals himself to be none other than the beloved god Phoonzang, frustrated and corrupted to evil after many eons of being exiled by the other Cosmic Lords for breaking their divine law and sharing the knowledge of the universe with humans. The party must then choose how best to defeat the Dark Savant (unless they want to give it up and just join him in his evil rampage, which they're also allowed to do if they want to,) and in the end, they ascend to godhood and become the new masters of the universe.

There are three different endings to Wizardry 8 (and thus to the entire Wizardry epic.) They are:

1) Use the Cosmic Forge to rewrite the universe so that the Dark Savant is gone. This is the most triumphant ending, resulting in the entire party ascending to godhood and becoming caretakers of the universe.

2) Rip pages out of the book to alter the past so that Phoonzang never became the Dark Savant. This does in fact change the Dark Savant back into benevolent Phoonzang, but it also destroys the entire history of the universe since then. The characters still ascend to godhood, and Phoonzang and the party start working together to rewrite everything that they inadvertantly destroyed.

3) Join the Dark Savant. The party become the Dark Savant's evil helpers and together they wreak havoc on the universe. Mua-ha-ha-ha-ha!

Character Subplots and Secrets

Al-Sedexus: This standard-issue oversexed demoness demands that one of the player characters keep her company in a PG-rated fadeout, but there's a twist: near the end of the game, you encounter another demoness named Al-YourCharacter'sNameHere (in my case it was the rawulf knight Christof who did the deed, so the demoness was named Al-Christof), and she informs you that she is the daughter of that union. Demons mature quickly, apparently! The new demoness immediately fights the party to the death, so there's nothing more than can be done with this subplot.
