About The Things That I Done
Shit, coughed Karel, rolling to a stop at the base of the hill. Then Khyrisse landed on top of him. Oof!
Sorry, she mumbled, not feeling very sorry, and picked herself up. There was still a faint and disturbing rumbling
somewhere beneath the ground. An unpleasant haze of gravel dust hovered in the air down here. Khyrisse wasnt usually prone to
asthma attacks, but this was pushing her breathability limits. Did you do that, she demanded rhetorically, fanning the air in front
of her face around, or did I?
I think it was me, actually, said Rani, stepping through the cloud dragging Aithne and Tarrin behind her by the
wrists. Were in a little bit of a hurry here, do you mind just grabbing on?
What? said Khyrisse, blinking at the grim-faced halfbreed. What are you--why are we in a hurry?
My wife is dying, Tarrin said in an anguished voice. Please, we must save her!
That and Ive got Sidhe breathing down my neck, Rani said, Id kind of like to get out of here before they kick
my ass. Or before I have to tear this whole place apart to get away from em.
Khyrisse looked at Aithne. Aithne just looked scared. All right, the sorceress sighed, then realized too late that sighing
in a cloud of gravel dust made you choke on it pathetically.
Why are the Sidhe chasing you anyway? Karel asked curiously, taking his wheezing sister by the arm. You didnt
steal something from them, did you?
Thats R-A-N-I, not K-I-T. She nodded her assent, and he put his hand gingerly on her shoulder. I ditched out
on their destiny thing.
You did? said Karel, blinking at her. Can--I ask what it was?
No, she said. They asked for something I wasnt willing to give up. Thats all you need to know.
Hold on, and hold on tight.
