The 7th Guest Spoilers
Welcome to the new Computer Game Spoilers section of
my gaming website. I added this section because I recently received questions about the plots of two different games which, to my surprise
and embarrassment, I had totally forgotten the answers to. Then, to my further surprise, I was unable to find any existing website that
would refresh my memory about the plots of computer games... lots of puzzle solutions, but no basic plot summaries.

So I figured I'd better write some of them down while they're still fresh in my mind, just in case I or anybody else wants to refer to them
at some point in the future (or in case anybody suffers a major game glitch and just wants to know what was supposed to happen in the end--
I get letters like this from time to time.) If you haven't finished The 7th Guest yet and you don't want the plot of this game
to be revealed to you, then you don't want to read this page. Please go back to my main
The 7th Guest page, where I give tips and reviews without
giving away any of its plot.
But if you are looking for plot spoilers, just scroll further down the page to find them!
Plot Summary
The game opens with Stauf, a villainous toymaker, inviting six people to visit him in his mansion. The player character enters the building and
sees the ghosts of these six people replaying the same roles they went through when they first visited: trying to gain their "heart's
desire," promised to them by Stauf, by solving puzzles and vying to kidnap the "seventh guest" of the title, a young boy
named Tad who sneaked into the mansion on a dare. Some of them chose to try to kidnap Tad, others chose to try and help him, and
ultimately they all ended up dying that night.
After solving many unrelated puzzles, the player character realizes that he himself is a ghost as well-- the spirit of Tad the Seventh Guest, trapped
in the mansion until he is able to break free of Stauf somehow. Then he breaks free of Stauf... well, somehow. There's no rhyme or reason to it.
Stauf suddenly sticks out an 8-foot-longue tongue and starts to squeeze Tad to death with it; the PC cries "No, you can't do this to him,"
doesn't do anything to interfere, but Stauf randomly turns into a skeleton, bursts into flames and disappears. Then young Tad says "You saved me!",
which is doubly confusing because our character didn't do ANYTHING, unless hearing the word "no" was Stauf's secret weakness or something.
It was really one of the most ridiculous computer game endings I've seen.
Character Subplots and Secrets
Julia Heine: Her heart's desire is to regain her lost youth and beauty. She fights the other guests vigorously for this privelege, killing
Temple and ultimately being the one to capture Tad and turn him over to Stauf. However, Stauf doesn't keep his end of the bargain and kills
her by vomiting green slime on her that makes her melt like the Wicked Witch of the West.
Hamilton Temple: A professional magician, his heart's desire is to learn real magic. However, he is not willing to capture Tad to achieve
this and instead tries to protect him, killing Edward in the process. He is eventually killed by Julia.
Edward Knox: His heart's desire is to be rich.
He apparently sleeps with Martine at some point during the night. He stabs Dutton to keep him from absconding with Tad, then later is killed
by Temple when he tries to kidnap Tad himself.
Elinor Knox: Her heart's desire is also to be rich.
Like Temple, she is not willing to kill a child to get her wish. It is not
clear what happened to her though we hear her spirit crying out for help near the end.
Martine Burden: She is an ambitious golddigger whose heart's desire is to be rich and powerful. She apparently sleeps with
Edward at some point during the night, and assists him in killing Dutton. She is drowned in the bathtub. None of the other guests
are shown doing this to her, so perhaps Stauf killed her himself.
Brian Dutton: His heart's desire is to be rich and successful. He tries to kidnap Tad but is stabbed to death by Edward, who wants the boy
for himself.
