Escape from Monkey Island Spoilers
Welcome to the new Computer Game Spoilers section of
my gaming website. I added this section because I recently received questions about the plots of two different games which, to my surprise
and embarrassment, I had totally forgotten the answers to. Then, to my further surprise, I was unable to find any existing website that
would refresh my memory about the plots of computer games... lots of puzzle solutions, but no basic plot summaries.

So I figured I'd better write some of them down while they're still fresh in my mind, just in case I or anybody else wants to refer to them
at some point in the future (or in case anybody suffers a major game glitch and just wants to know what was supposed to happen in the end--
I get letters like this from time to time.) If you haven't finished Escape from Monkey Island yet and you don't want the plot of this game
to be revealed to you, then you don't want to read this page. Please go back to my main
Escape from Monkey Island page, where I give tips and reviews without
giving away any of its plot.
But if you are looking for plot spoilers, just scroll further down the page to find them!
Plot Summary
Ozzie Mandrill, an annoying Australian business tycoon, is taking over the islands where Guybrush lives and turning them into pirate-themed tourist traps--
but there's nothing Guybrush can do about it, because he doesn't understand Ozzie's dialect of English well enough to win an insult fight with him.
Now he must try to prevent Ozzie from assembling a weapon called the Ultimate Insult.
Meanwhile, Guybrush's undead nemesis LeChuck returns in this game using the alias "Charles L. Charles" and runs against Elaine for the
governorship of Melee Island, which he actually wins. But then of course he returns to his usual megalomaniacal form and plots with Ozzie to
use the Ultimate Insult to subjugate the entire Caribbean Archipelago. Meanwhile Guybrush, stranded on Monkey Island, has to play a takeoff
on Mortal Kombat repeatedly with a bunch of monkeys. Finally, he has to best LeChuck himself in Giant Monkey Kombat.
Character Subplots and Secrets
There were a couple of plot twists for the characters in this one:
Herman Toothrot: This was a minor character in the first two Monkey Island games, a dim-witted hermit. In this game he
regains his memory and is revealed to be Elaine's grandfather, Horatio Marley. At the end of the game, he resumes governorship of the island while
Elaine and Guybrush return to their carefree piratical ways.
LeChuck and Ozzie: These two villains are working together for most of the game. Ozzie freed LeChuck from his last prison, and now they
are in league to find and use the Ultimate Insult (Ozzie because he wants to break the spirit of the pirates and create an orderly tourist haven, and
LeChuck because he wants to control Elaine so that she will agree to marry him.) However, once they find it, their alliance goes less smoothly--
LeChuck strikes off on his own, Ozzie decides to use the Ultimate Insult to control LeChuck, and then after Guybrush annoys them long enough
by drawing repeated ties in Monkey Kombat, LeChuck manages to break free somehow and kills Ozzie.
